BURKE'S GARDEN FIELD TRIP
Feb 19, 2012

Click on the picture for information on the Burke's Garden area.  Dress warm for Burke's Garden and plan for very cold wind. Be sure to bring gloves, hats, scarfs, warm boots, etc.  The garden is a high-elevation valley at 3,000 feet and the windchill  is often brutal in winter.  However, it is a great opportunity to see Golden Eagles and Rough-legged Hawks. Expect to see Loggerhead Shrike, Red-headed Woodpeckers, migrating Red-tailed Hawks, Wilson Snipe, Green-winged Teal, Pintail and Goldeneye.  This is also a good place to see Fox Squirrels.

There is no hiking on this trip; all birding is done by car.

If you are interested in joining us on the trip please send us an e-mail and let us know.  We will be leaving from New Market Center in Boone at 7:30.  We will head down 421 and meet other members in Wilkesboro around 8:00 before hitting I-77 and heading north to Virginia.  As usual we will have lunch at the local country store, if they are open, but also bring extra food and water just in case they are closed.  Hope you can join us!!
